Grew up hunting that swamp, we had a lease on Mississippi bayou above I10 to bayou tent all the way to reserve canal, but we ran decked over airboats back then

Couldn’t hang a motor like that on a regular old Jon boat,,it would tear the transom rite off,,got to have a boat to match that beast

The Backwaters are really Cadillac of longtails... Nice review!
If they still made the same frame for that motor I would consider it,,but they did away with the heavy duty frame
I think that are actually more durable now because they are straight drive and don’t have a u joint anymore
@@karson7413 but all that weight and prying technique that goes with these motors,,makes me wander how many blocks get cracked,,that’s a long pry bar,,on that housing

@@clayton203, no you can still get the old frame (called the classic). The Lite is just a better option.

You still liking the Backwater? I need to buy a mud motor but it's have never owned one and have no experience with them. Everyone has a gatortail, but my instinct tells me the Backwater is more bulletproof? My goal is to be in the tight stumpy swamps looking for sinker logs. Thanks!

Nice rig and all but all tiller style boats require everyone inside the boat to have a PFD on even if your 18 or older it’s required if the motor boat has a tiller handle

I’m getting a 1644 alweld marsh with the Backwater GX690 in a few months. The last longtail I had was a mud buddy 15 yrs ago. This Backwater looks like the Cadillac of longtails.

No about 30 hp its about ft pounds of torque
It's not about the hp. It's about the type of motor. You couldn't do this with a regular outboard.

Yes. If your boat can handle it go with the 37 u can never have enough power with a mud motor. These things are great u can beat the living hell put of the backwaters. I own a gator tail also and the long tail will kick the surface drives ass in thick swamp
Looks like a weak reverse not getting the propulsion needed by a one direction prop
Thats just how theyre made. If they were great in reverse then they wouldnt be any good in fwd. also its the angle the motor puts the power down. They lift the boat up in fwd and pull the boat down in reverse
